Due to health reasons, It is with great sadness that I announce the closing of Pun-Kin-Place effective September 1, 2024.
The business began as an idea from my then 8 year old granddaughter, Mychaela, who suggested I create a spa-like place in Fremont specializing in children but catering to all after attending a similar event. At first, I dismissed it, knowing nothing about nails. However, her suggestion came during a dark period in my life after the loss of my parents. It became a blessing, providing me with new purpose, a sanctuary, an idea to keep moving forward. I researched, took a small businesses course, and after overcoming financial hurdles to start the business, I was granted a CDBG loan from WSOS. Only nine months later, Pun-kin-place became a reality.
I'm deeply grateful for the seven years the business was open. The road of entrepreneurship isn't easy. Despite personal challenges, including the deaths of my parents, my battle with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, my brother's suicide, the Pandemic, and my husband's health struggles and the lack of support from the VA. Despite it all, Pun-kin-place remained a Fremont staple, the first in the city to specialize in children!
Last year, I began booth renting at my shop with Shanice Garrett. (This is where you KNOW God is in control) We worked well together and she was such a blessing to the shop. Once I decided to close the doors, it just made sense to pass the torch to her.
Starting September 1st, "Styles by Shanice" will take over at 1215 W. State Strret. I am confident Shanice will do amazing things, and I am excited for her future and her dream of opening her own salon.
